How HostDive's pricing works

HostDive's main selling point is its entry-level yearly price. The cheapest shared hosting plan costs only a few dollars for a full year. That puts HostDive among the lowest-priced hosts you'll find.

There's a catch. This low rate applies only once per server. If you want a second hosting account, you'll pay the regular monthly-equivalent price instead, or move to a different server location to get the deal again.

Speaking of locations, not every option stays open. Some of HostDive's server locations already show as full on the pricing page. New customers have fewer choices than the page might suggest at first glance.

HostDive sells the same plans with two different control panels: DirectAdmin and cPanel. A control panel is the dashboard you use to manage your site, email, and files. The cPanel version costs roughly twice as much as the DirectAdmin version, for the same storage and features. Unless you need cPanel specifically, DirectAdmin gets you the same hosting for less.

One pleasant surprise: domain pricing looks fair. For the most common extensions, the renewal price matches the price you pay when you first register. Plenty of budget hosts use a cheap first-year domain price that jumps at renewal, so this is a point in HostDive's favor.

On the cheapest plan, you also start with no extra domains and no subdomains. That's fine for one simple site, but you'll need to upgrade before adding a second project, even a small one.

One thing the public pricing pages don't make clear: whether the discounted yearly price stays the same after your first year, or whether it jumps to a higher renewal rate. If predictable pricing over several years matters to you, ask support directly before you sign up.

Browsing the site, you'll also notice many near-identical pages built around different keywords, like Node.js hosting, PHP hosting, or SSH hosting, that all point to the same underlying shared hosting plans. This is common in budget hosting and mostly affects search results, not what you actually get, but it helps to know so you don't think you're looking at different products.

Hidden fees and fine print worth reading

A few details in HostDive's policies don't show up on the pricing page, but they can matter once you're a customer.

The refund policy is narrower than it first looks. Several pages advertise a 10-day, no-questions-asked refund for "all plans." The dedicated refund policy says something different: it covers shared hosting plans only, it excludes domains and VPS services, and you can claim it only once, ever, as a customer. Pay by cryptocurrency, and you lose the refund option completely.

The cheap yearly price comes with reduced support. HostDive's own terms for the discounted yearly plans limit support to server-level issues, things like uptime, maintenance, and the control panel. Help with your website files, scripts, or general "how do I" questions falls outside that promise. If something breaks on your WordPress site itself, the cheapest plan may not get you the help you'd expect.

VPS, cloud, and gaming hosting are advertised, but don't exist yet. HostDive's homepage and menu list several VPS-based products with their own pricing: VPS servers (a more powerful, more private step up from shared hosting), cloud hosting, gaming servers, seedboxes, and VPN servers. Click through to any of them, and the order page simply says "nodes are being built." If you're hoping to grow into a VPS with HostDive later, that option isn't ready yet.

Cancellation terms favor HostDive, not you. The terms of service let HostDive end your service with just 12 hours' notice, for any reason. Once a service ends, HostDive removes your data and your backups along with it. This kind of clause is common among budget hosts, but it's still a strong reminder to keep your own backup copy somewhere else, just in case.

DDoS protection isn't clear for every plan. Some marketing pages mention protection against DDoS attacks (a type of attack that floods a server with junk traffic to knock it offline) as part of shared hosting. The side-by-side plan comparison tables, though, don't show which plans actually include it. If this matters for your site, ask support to confirm before you buy.

It's also worth knowing that HostDive runs as a small, fully remote company, and its Trustpilot profile has only been active since late 2022. That's not a warning sign by itself, but it does help explain why support resources and refund flexibility may feel different from a larger, more established host.

Uptime and reliability

Marketing pages across the HostDive site often mention 99.99% uptime. That number sounds impressive. HostDive's own terms of service, though, guarantee only 99.9% uptime on its network, and the same lower figure also appears on at least one other page on the site. On paper, the gap looks tiny. In practice, 99.9% allows roughly nine times more downtime per year than 99.99% does.

User reports seem to line up more with the lower number. One reviewer who gave HostDive 4 out of 5 stars praised the support team, but said "instability problems" were the reason they decided not to continue with the service.

On the hosting forum LowEndTalk, one user described their experience with HostDive's shared hosting as "abysmally slow" while running a small online store. They were actively looking for a new host at the time, having found HostDive too slow for their site.

Not every customer reports problems like this. Two of the four reviews we found mentioned no outages at all. Still, if your site needs to stay online without interruption, plan around the 99.9% figure in the contract, not the higher number some pages advertise.

Loading speed for visitors outside the US

Another detail comes up more than once: speed for visitors outside the US.

One reviewer who paid for the cheapest yearly plan said the hosting itself loaded fine for them, but visitors from outside the US sometimes waited "up to 20 seconds" for a simple page to load. Their advice was direct: that kind of delay can drive visitors away, even when the hosting is good value for the price.

HostDive does offer data center locations in the US, Europe, and Asia, so picking a location closer to your audience may help. Still, test this yourself if most of your visitors live outside North America, especially for a business site or online store where loading speed affects first impressions and sales.

This pattern fits with the instability complaints from the previous section. Slow loading and occasional instability often share the same root cause: a shared server handling more traffic than it can comfortably manage. A small personal blog with light traffic may never notice. A growing site, where every second of load time counts, faces a real risk worth weighing against the low price.

Public reviews for HostDive are still rare. We found four reviews in total, posted between late 2022 and early 2024, from customers in the US, Spain, Pakistan, and Norway. That's a small sample, but it shows a real spread of experiences from customers in different countries, not just a wall of five-star ratings.

On the negative end, one reviewer gave HostDive 1 out of 5 stars and reported "zero help from customer service" when something on the server stopped working correctly. The same review mentioned a broken installer tool and a control panel setting that didn't change anything when adjusted, plus replies that felt automated rather than personal.

On the positive end, other reviewers described support as quick to respond. One said they had no outages or technical issues at all during their time with HostDive, and another praised the support team directly, even while moving on for other reasons.
